Sometimes the Simple Weekends Mean the Most

Life’s starting to feel different lately.
This weekend honestly had the feeling of being on vacation somehow. Not in a huge exciting way, but in a peaceful way. A slower pace. Less stress. Just being around people that naturally fit together.
I really don’t miss living at the suite.
I think Max does though.
We only live a couple blocks away from the old place, and whenever I walk him he still tries to head back there. Dogs get attached to places just like people do. I think he’s still adjusting. But one thing that’s been really good is how well Max and Stitch are getting along.
Stitch is Shannon and Melissa’s dog, and that dog is happy 24/7. His tail never stops wagging. Half the time he gets so excited he doesn’t even know what he wants. He’ll run up wanting pets, then run away, then come back, then grab a toy, then forget about the toy two seconds later. He’s just pure happiness.
The four of us all seem to have really natural chemistry together too. Nothing feels forced. Everybody just kind of fits.
We all made a Walmart trip together this weekend, which sounds small, but honestly those simple things can be fun when you’re around the right people.
Yesterday I made stir fry for everybody. I used a new Beijing sauce I’d never tried before, so I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but everybody loved it. That surprised me because trying new sauces is always kind of a gamble.
Melissa and I spent a lot of time just relaxing and watching YouTube too. Last night we watched the movie Mr. K. I won’t ruin it, but it’s one of those weird, different movies that somehow works. It’s about a man who gets stuck in a hotel and can’t leave.
Tonight Shannon, his wife, and I had the Kirkland lasagna from Costco. Honestly, it was really good. Different than Stouffer’s, but just as good in its own way. Melissa couldn’t have any because she’s celiac, so she had leftover Chinese food instead.
We were supposed to spend the weekend getting our room fully put together and unpacked, but we never quite got there. We’re still waiting on a big dresser and TV stand combo so we can finally get our bed and TV off the ground. That should all be here in the next few days, along with a cabinet for all of my wife’s stationery business supplies.
Right now our room is basically going to be both our bedroom and her office space.
After that, we want to get a computer desk so we can finally get our computer back up and running. Trying to do everything from a phone all the time gets old fast.
Now the weekend’s coming to an end.
I’m laying here getting ready to sleep.
Tomorrow morning I’ll wake up, go back to work, and do it all over again.
But honestly, this weekend felt good.
Maybe that’s enough sometimes.
